Hero MotoCorp Launches 2025 Splendor Plus Range with OBD2B Compliance and New Features

Hero MotoCorp has introduced the 2025 range of its most popular commuter motorcycle, the Splendor Plus, now updated to meet the latest OBD2B emission compliance norms. The company has launched five new variants, each offering different features to cater to a wider range of customers. The base model, the Splendor Plus Xtec Drum variant, is priced at around Rs. 79,000, which is approximately Rs. 2,000 more expensive than the outgoing version. On the other end, the top-spec Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 comes in at Rs. 85,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), offering premium features such as an LED headlamp and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, which enhance both safety and connectivity.

All variants of the updated Splendor Plus are powered by the same 97cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 8 bhp and 8 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. There are no changes to the performance figures with the new OBD2B update, although there might be a slight variation in fuel efficiency due to the changes in emission control systems. Hero MotoCorp’s decision to introduce a price hike, though minor, could affect the buying decisions of customers in the price-sensitive 100cc segment, especially as rivals offer competitive alternatives. This move suggests Hero is banking on added features and improved compliance to retain its edge, but how well it works in the market remains to be seen.

OBD2B compliance refers to the second stage of On-Board Diagnostics norms introduced in India. This system allows the motorcycle to monitor emissions in real-time and detect issues related to the vehicle’s emission control systems. The goal is to reduce pollution by ensuring that vehicles maintain clean emissions throughout their lifespan. The OBD2B system is a step forward in making motorcycles more environmentally friendly and reliable, aligning with stricter regulations set by Indian authorities.
