Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Spotted Testing: A More Rugged, Off-Road-Ready Variant Incoming

The upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400 XC has been recently spotted testing without any camouflage, hinting at an imminent launch. Interestingly, this new variant appears to be more than just a cosmetic update and is likely to sit above the current Scrambler 400 X in the lineup. While the standard model already offers impressive capabilities, the XC variant seems to be focused more on enhancing its off-road prowess and rugged usability, positioning it as a more hardcore scrambler for adventure enthusiasts.

One of the most significant updates is the introduction of tubeless cross-spoke wheels. This is a huge plus for off-road riders, as it not only adds durability and a premium look but also makes puncture repairs much easier, which is a common concern for adventure tourers. The wheel sizes will remain unchanged, with a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear—ideal for light to moderate off-road riding while maintaining good road manners.

One area where Triumph could significantly improve is the braking setup. The standard model used organic brake pads, which were prone to brake fade under heavy usage. For the Scrambler 400 XC, enthusiasts are hoping Triumph upgrades to sintered brake pads, which offer much better heat resistance and more consistent stopping power—crucial for both highway and off-road braking.

Under the hood, the Scrambler 400 XC will continue to use the tried and tested 398cc TR-series engine, a liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor producing 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of peak torque. This engine has already proven to be a well-balanced unit, offering smooth performance across urban streets and open trails. The XC variant will also retain the dedicated Off-Road Mode from the Scrambler 400 X, which includes switchable ABS and traction control—a critical feature for skilled riders looking to push the bike in loose or challenging conditions.

An eagerly awaited upgrade would be the addition of a quickshifter, which would further enhance the riding experience by offering smoother gear shifts, especially during rapid transitions on the trail or in city traffic. Although not confirmed, this feature would elevate the Scrambler 400 XC’s convenience and performance.

Considering the enhancements in hardware and features, the Scrambler 400 XC is expected to be priced around ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 more than the current Scrambler 400 X. This price increase seems justified given the added off-road gear, potential braking upgrades, and tubeless wheels. Overall, the XC is shaping up to be a more adventure-oriented and robust iteration of an already capable motorcycle.
